Watching Out

I just received yet another warden message from the US Embassy warning American citizens to stay away from central Yerevan during certain hours of the day when protests are scheduled. Apparently a human rights demonstration is on the agenda for today.
The U.S. Embassy learned that a non-governmental organization with ties to the political opposition intends to stage unauthorized protest rallies and a march in various areas of downtown Yerevan tomorrow, December 10.  Some protests are expected to start mid-morning.  A protest march around a number of major downtown streets is expected to take place starting at 3:00pm.

Spontaneous demonstrations take place in Armenia from time to time in response to world events or local developments.  We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.  American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.  American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
I have no other informantion right now, but I am sure something will appear in online newspapers tomorrow about what happened.
